Scotch 206 will do an excellent job of that, IF it is new and had no
splices. Of course, there is no such thing as new 206, because 3M quit
making tape a couple of decades ago.
If you want to record things onto analog tape, I suggest standardizing
on something that's still being made, like ATR tape or RMGI tape. You'll
need to have your recorders aligned so they'll work properly with your
chosen tape -- you'd have to do that with any type of Scotch tape, too.
Analog recorders don't work properly unless they've been aligned.
More to the point, why do you want to record LPs and 45s to analog
reel-to-reel tape? You won't be playing it in the car, and you could get
better results by buying a decent sound card and recording them into
your computer, then burning CDs for the car or playing back directly via
something like an iPod. (you can put .wav files, or .flac files, onto
portable players and not lose any quality.
Subbing discs to analog tape will not improve the quality of listening
in *any* way, not even if you use a professional Studer machine (which
would still need to be aligned).
Peace,
Paul
