ELECTRONIC LITERATURE SHOWCASE, April 3-5, 2013

Please join the Digital Reference Section of the Library of Congress for an Electronic Literature Showcase, to be held April 3-5, 2013, on site at the Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First Street, SE, Washington, DC.

Created with computers to take advantage of their unique capabilities, electronic literature builds upon but also extends familiar forms of literary expression by bringing to them new experimentation and interactivity. More than a computer screen and different from an ebook or a digitized text, electronic literature is, for example, hypertext narrative, literary games, interactive fiction, and kinetic poetry. Like all literature, it explores the human condition-but as "born digital" content it is mediated by underlying computer code, often combining the written word with sound, images, animation, and video.

Central to the showcase is a three-day interactive exhibit of electronic literature and related printed works that highlights the major strands of influence in the field. Additional events include readings by featured authors each day at noon, workshops and hands-on activities, and, on the afternoon of April 5, a closing keynote address with noted author and scholar Stuart Moulthrop followed by a panel discussion with literary scholars.

THURSDAY, APRIL 4

"Electric Hour, a Reading of Electronic Literature," with authors Alan Bigelow, Steve Tomasula, and M.D. Coverley. Noon. Whittall Pavilion.
