Dr. Lotz,
Re: record shops:
Euclid Records in Webster Groves -- http://www.euclidrecords.com/
Record Exchange in St. Louis -- http://www.recordexchangestl.com/
Vintage Vinyl in University City -- http://www.vintagevinyl.com/
All are within 15 to 20 minutes of each other. Euclid has a lot of jazz records, some blues. Vintage Vinyl has a little of everything. Record Exchange has stuff piled all over the store. There is always a stack of 78s on the front counter. Occasionally you might find something of interest there.
Contact me off-list at [log in to unmask] if you would like further information.
The Scott Joplin House on Delmar Ave. is a historic site operated by Missouri State Parks. They offer tours of the building, and they have lots of pre-1920 piano rolls and a player piano on which to play them. You might contact Joel Slotnikoff (http://www.bluesworld.com/) or Leroy Pierson for information about the early St. Louis blues scene.
The Missouri History Museum might be worth checking out. http://www.mohistory.org/
All the best,
Jim Nelson

Subject: [ARSCLIST] Black St. Louis
I expect to be in St. Louis in May, prior to the ARSC conference in Kansas City.
(a) Are there any record shops in that area?
(b) I need a guide to the history of Black St. Louis from the ragtime era onwards. Are there any tours, or knowledgeable contacts?
Thanks
Rainer
