I never thought this was such an unusual packaging method. I can, off the top of my head think of a few boxes with single LPs - Gilbert and Sullivan's "Trial by Jury" on London, (a couple of different versions), Stokowski's "Carmina Burana" and "The Orchestra" on Capitol, "King of Kings" and "Ben Hur" on MGM, "Listening in Depth" on Columbia, and I think there were some Broadway musicals on Columbia which came out in that packaging but I may be thinking of things like "Kismet", "Candide" and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" which were single CDs issued in dual CD jewel boxes. There was also the "Philharmonic Library of Great Music" series which came out in the '50s, (in Canada at least, I don't know if they were issued in the US).
