I have seen US and British pressed blue Angel records from the 50s.It's been years, but I think I recall seeing Edith Piaf, and Django Reinhart titles. I recall most as being in the LL 450 range. And the dull red label background, as opposed to the early glossy ones, became standard for most London LPs after about 1953.> > Blue-label Angel LPs were also USA-pressed. At least the ones I own or have seen. (It was a series devoted, at least in part, to ethnic-oriented music. I remember more than one featuring an Irish vocal group, but haven't looked the information up.) I can't get at my copies now, but the numerical series might have been 65000 for 12" discs. Not only is the music striking; Martha Angelici was a superb and individual singer who made too few recordings.> > All based upon memory....> > Don Tait> > > > > > > > -----Original Message-----> From: Roger Kulp <[log in to unmask]>> To: ARSCLIST <[log in to unmask]>> Sent: Wed, Apr 24, 2013 11:38 pm> Subject: Re: [ARSCLIST] LP packaging question> > > I have a few 50s London mono Lps that are pressed in the US.These are on a flat > maroon label, with golden lettering. Not the glossy reds of the British > pressings. With the advent of stereo,American Telefunken records were pressed in > the US.In 1965,the switch was made to press US London popular records in the > US.You can judge this by the Rolling Stones records.I think early copies of > December's Children may have been the last one pressed in the UK for the US > market.Either that or Out of Our Heads.I am not sure if the first Moody Blues > album had a UK London pressing for the US or not.
