Check out the $75-100 Tascam iM2 iPad/iPhone mic. If you can tolerate 32kHz/16-bit recording, it's a
good little pair of electret mics.
For that matter, check out the Tascam recorders. Simple to use, improved sound quality in recent
generations (according to various reviews), typical Tascam in that they just work and don't need a
giant learning curve. Zoom is still in the lower end of the game and their machines have a lot of
features (and a steeper learning curve). Others?
