That kind of cheap-and-cheerful gadget never gave good results.
I use an Olympus 80mm lens designed specifically for slide duplication,
but any serious macro lens should work well when stopped down two stops
from wide open. A good (probably Nikon) 80mm enlarger lens will also
work. Both of these need a bellows for focussing.
Currently I am using a Sickles Chromapro slide duplicator. This is
basically a light box with a rigid stand and bellows for the camera and
lens. Mine was cheap on eBay - it needed some servicing due to dried up
lubricants, but this was very straightforward.
Practically all serious digital cameras allow you to connect a monitor
via HDMI. However, I find the tilting LCD on a Sony NEX works well.

For 120, I get good results from the Epson 750 scanner. This device
works well on unmounted film generally, but is very slow. Mounted
slides come out slightly out of focus - and the scanner has no
focussing mechanism.
Any mounted 120 slides, I remove from the mounts - but I only had a few
hundred of those.
My test of "good enough" is, is the grain crisp and clear as it would be
in a good print made traditionally using a grain magnifier under the
enlarger.
