Just found this on eBay. Pity these discs are not in any archives.

Made for US Marine Corps troops stationed overseas
Transcription discs were used by radio stations to make in-house recordings of broadcast programmes. Radio stations might do this in order to archive the programme, or to re-transmit it at a later date, or to syndicate it to other radio stations. I am currently in the process of selling a very large collection of transcription discs, largely of country music shows from the 1950s. These shows were recorded in radio studios like WSM in Nashville for use by local radio stations broadcasting on US Forces networks overseas. Some are regular broadcasts that have been edited for forces use. Others were made especially for the forces. These latter shows are sometimes referred to as AFRS programmes (AFRS = Armed Forces Radio Service).
Transcription discs are larger than regular LPs, usually 16 inches in diameter. They play at 33 rpm. For professional use, they are played on a deck made for the purpose. Such decks do turn up on eBay. The discs will also play on regular record decks if there is enough space around the edge of the turntable. If not it is sometimes possible to adapt a regular deck to make enough room. By their very nature, transcription discs are rare. Only a few of each programme were needed and they were often discarded after use.
These two discs carry three editions of Leatherneck Jamboree made for the United States Marine Corps. The programme numbers are 14, 15 and 26. The disc with programme 26 is single sided. 14 and 15 are either side of the other disc. Hand-written notes on the labels suggest that all three shows were made in 1957.
Both these discs are in excellent condition; transcription discs had to be looked after well and generally were used only a very small number of times. Show number 14 stars Jim Reeves and the Jordanaires; Show 15 has Ernest Tubb and the Wilburn Brothers; Show number 16 has Jim Reeves again, this time with Benny Martin.
