Vinyl was never the ideal medium to deliver sound to the average consumer - too many compromises to appease the home console phonograph.


OK, Angel tried to make amends in the 70s with a few releases at 45 rpm (they sounded good, didn't they!) - and who can forget RCA half-speed mastering?
Was this a new idea? Decca mastered early ffs records at half-speed back in the late 50s.


And who can forget that pressing plants didn't want lacquers with lots of LF difference information that required longer-than-average pressing duration?


I hate to say it, but a well-mastered CD can sound mighty wonderful ...
