The Grateful Dead Studio Set now available Mastered For ITunes (as good as that can be) and in the can for future hi-res distribution were all retransfers of the 13 original 1/4" masters, with our processing for somewhat less than one might have hoped, but enough to make it worthwhile.
So it can be done, should be done and I believe if rather than simply despairing of it the community bitched and shamed the labels it would be done.
Here's a brain teaser: I asked a wealthy hedgie what is favorite album is. Ok U2 War... Alright what would you pay for an HD download ... 29.95$.. Ok how much would you pay for a mirror copy of the master tape... 500bucks!!! In a heartbeat.
Same item.
14400 copies of a recent box set we worked on sold out in 3weeks at 450$ per. 6 months before release. 6.3 million$ gross presale credit card swipes in February for a set not even available until August. Think they mispriced it?
At 499$ there would have been another 705,000$. The budget was constrained and it obviously didn't need to be.
There's a disconnect somewhere.
Please pardon the misspellings and occassional insane word substitution I'm on an iPhone
