This only works well for very short duration ticks - only a few samples
long.  Interpolation tools, which analyze the waveform before and after the
click and intelligently fill in the missing information, have been around
for 20 years and work perfectly and are much faster than doing it
manually.  They can also remove crackle (which is really just many small
clicks close together) which would be impossibly time consuming to remove
manually.

Tom is right.  The de-click algorithms work by looking for transient
information with no regard for timing.  They can artifact on percussion,
spiky vocal waveforms, and they absolutely hate muted trumpets!
