I've just had a couple repaired by my local wiz.
Other, reparable things go wrong with it as well and the mimic the problems
created by the bad chip.
His number is 301-694-5134. He's in and out, but usually answers his calls.

I was told by several specialists that the chip cannot be repaired nor is
there a way around the problem. The chip has to be replaced. I am not
familiar with the SL model so I cannot tell you if it is the same chip that
is in the SP-1015.
