I'm not sure that the generated display needs to be a string like an
authorized access point; it could simply display the elements deemed
important next to each other, with captions:
Name: Smith, Steven Scott Occupation: Dramatists;
Theatrical producers and directors; Pianists
The two points being (a) that there is no need to choose just one
occupation, and (b) the terms will not be stored in an authority record,
but will be linked to the identifier from their respective vocabularies.
So in a display for this person, the Occupation display will be
generated by links to:
http://lccn.loc.gov/sh85039342
http://lccn.loc.gov/sh85134614
http://lccn.loc.gov/sh85134614
and not by text that a cataloguer has keyed into a 374 field in a name
authority record.

Richard

Yes, which is why I've always thought that we needed a way to indicate
to machines which of multiple choices it should use if it is going to
automatically generate an authorized access point for display.
