It is also essential if you are filming the screen to make sure it fills
the viewfinder, as a dark surround will cause overexposure of the screen in
auto-exposure modes.

On some devices you may be able to set some under-exposure to counteract
this - for instance if you use a typical digital SLR camera for filming.

But Tom's idea of taking the recording directly from the projector input
(which is probably HDMI) is much better.

Google "recording from hdmi signal" for coverage of this. The games
players want it, so it is a known problem.
