Which is the most recorded orchestra of them all? By orchestra, I mean an organized ensemble that
regularly performed live together, not a studio-pickup band. My guess would be either the LSO or the
Berlin Philharmonic. I guess the measure would be number of distinct recording sessions yielding
release media, not number of disks and discs, because the 78 era would skew everything wrong.
Off the top of my head, LSO has recorded with many different conductors for Decca, Mercury, Everest,
RCA (via Decca and not via Decca), I think EMI and also maybe Columbia? Berlin more with DGG, but
hundreds and hundreds of sessions.
I guess Vienna Philharmonic would also be a contender.
I might be wrong on this, but I think LSO is the leader by far in number of different conductors and
