Setting the adjective "self-declared" aside for a moment... is being a "messiah" really a "profession or occupation in which a person works"? Perhaps it should go in a 368 as well.

To me the question is: does recording this term assist in identification, more than it might cause controversy?

Everyone knows that nerd is not a profession or occupation.  It is an other attribute of a person, so it would likely go in 368 $c, not 374.
