I like the idea of being able to encode this information, and I would do it myself if the period of activity were significantly different from the person's life span. The only possible con would be if the individual had two very disparate periods of activity, such as the actress Gloria Stuart, who was extremely active in the 1930s, and then did not become active again until the 1980s. Or perhaps the subfields s and t are repeatable? In which case it's not an issue at all. Thanks for bringing this up, Adam.

Subject: [PCCLIST] actual birth dates AND period of activity
I'm wondering if anyone is recording in authority field 046 both dates of birth and death AND periods of activity? In Wikipedia records you can find both bits of information for persons.
For example, the Wikipedia article for the film director Richard Fleischer gives his birth and death dates (December 8, 1916-March 25, 2006) and also lists years active (1943-1987).
When I upgraded this record to RDA, I added:
046 $f 19161208 $g 20060325 $s 1943 $t 1987
Is anyone doing this? Pros and cons?
Adam
