I pulled a few old 1/4" reel-to-reel tapes out of a "free box" this weekend.
The stuff is all either mass-produced commercial releases or home dubs of
EXCEPT there's a single 5" reel that would seem to be a letter, from a man
& woman to a friend or relation (daughter?). No biographical details were
included, but the leader has "Mom & Dad" marked in pencil.
There's nothing that makes this recording stand out from a historical
standpoint, but it is certainly an authentic sample of how people talked in
the last quarter of the 20th century (give or take a few years maybe.) The
subject matter is mundane day-to-day stuff, but the couple have
delightfully old-school NYC-area accents.
Is there a collector or collection who specializes in this kind of
material? I'd happily pay postage to make sure this tape ends up in a place
where it will be looked after and hopefully preserved for future
Please feel free to email me off-list if you have suggestions.
