Second the recommendation for Tascam on 4-track cassettes. I had a Marantz that I liked very much, which had variable pitch control, but it died. The Marantz had optional DBX, which one friend of mine loved to send his vocals through, processed, and play back unprocessed. He called it "Anti-DBX"..
