As someone who makes part of his livelihood from large rock tours, I have always considered it excessive. Big shows can be cool to watch, but it's about the music. "1 band, 1 van" (and/or trailer) has been my motto for years. I have worked shows with 10-20 semi trucks, why? Some bands know where it's at like Elton John, who's last tour I worked used an 80's star drop curtain instead of video walls. some bands have even less. Local rock in small bars and medium size clubs is flourishing and enjoyable, thank you.
