Re switching from aol to gmail, I was also resistant to get used to
anything new, and my son convinced me I had to switch to gmail.  As he put
it, "All the smart people use gmail now."   How to argue with that?  One
good feature is that you leave your old email in place (in my case aol) and
gmail "sweeps it" into gmail, both all the old emails and all new ones.  So
if somebody sends an email to my aol account, it comes right over into my
gmail account, no problem.  Makes changing pretty easy.
