Using the same tape, with both machines set up properly, the 2-track
will have about 2.3dB better signal-to-noise ratio; no other major
differences. On the other hand, most 2-track cconsumer recorders will
run at 15 ipw, 2hidh most 4-track machines won't, and there are many
advantages to 15ips vs. 7.5 ips -- better mid-frequency headroom, much
better high-frequency saturation performance, lower distortion at a
given level, lower modulation noise, etc.
