Greetings!
“Marching to Zion: Celebrating and Preserving Black Sacred Music,” is the theme of the 2014 Pruit Symposium, which will be held at Baylor University from October 23-25, 2014. The symposium features keynote addresses by Civil Rights leader, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, Dr. James Abbington, Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship at Emory University, and Dr. Dwandalyn Reece from the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Additional sessions by experts in black sacred music and culture, choir performances and a gospel brunch with the Jones Family Singers will also highlight the event. The Symposium will also feature two nights of gospel music celebrations and will culminate with a gospel brunch featuring a concert by the Jones Family Singers.
We hope that you will be able to join us at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in October for what will be an historic gathering and celebration of black sacred music. The registration fee for the Pruit Symposium is $125. Tickets to the gospel brunch are only $10.
