The MS actually gives great mono if you set it up right. The Mid channel
is your mono channel and the Side channel works like FM, add for left,
subtract for right. Personally, I tried it once, hated the results and
never used it since. Most of my recordings are based on 3 mics and spots
if needed. The most I have ever used is 12 mics on orchestra, choir and
4 soloists.
