Yes! Transcribed and controlled data serve entirely different purposes, and both are important. Some examples that catalogers will be familiar with:
1) form of series transcribed from the manifestation vs. controlled form of the series (a work related to the manifestation),
2) transcribed title from the manifestation vs. constructed title identifying the work and/or expression (title portion of AAP in RDA, uniform title in AACR2, filing title/conventional title/etc. in earlier cataloging codes),
3) transcribed form of name in statement of responsibility vs. controlled form of the name.
Note that in these examples transcribed information is manifestation-level information, while controlled data is at "higher" levels (e.g., work, expression, person entity).
I know almost nothing about RDF and the other topics being discussed here - I wouldn't know a blank node if one bit me - but I am passionately concerned about the outcome of all this discussion.

Transcribed data and controlled data serve different purposes, and they cannot be substitutes for each other. Neither is more important than the other. Yes we need to have linked data, but not at the cost of losing transcribed data.
