Typically the capacitors are under US$ apiece, and they take about 5
minutes each to replace. If you know how to solder and desolder you can
do it yourself, if you have a service manual that includes a circuit
diagrams of the amplifiers. It's really a simple repair.
Oh, and have you had the tape recorder's bias, levels and pre-emphasis
adjusted for the tape you're using?
