Steve,

One more note on the carpet: if the speaker can slide on the carpet,
the carpet would reduce the transmission of horizontal vibration to
the file cabinet, but would not reduce the transmission of vertical
vibration. Even so, the friction coefficient between the carpet and
the bottom of the friction will probably not be low enough to make
much of a difference. Since the speaker case ultimately vibrates in
all directions, the carpet will not be effective because of the
vertical component of vibration.
