I think this is an overbroad generalization. I just took a look at the
spectrum of a session recorded on a Studer A810 and subsequently dubbed
into ProTools; there's a 60Hz component at about -87dBFS and a 12Hz
component at about -95dBFS. Those components may have come from the
recorder, or they may be residual hum from the console (SSL). In any
case, they're pretty tiny.
