A resource that may help answer your second question about the repercussions
of your term choice in a DAM system or beyond--I've relied heavily upon the
DLF/Aquifer Implementation Guidelines for Shareable MODS Records[1]. Despite
the fact that the Guidelines were based on MODS 3.2 and written for a
specific context[2], the document remains useful when figuring out metadata
strategy that suits local as well as networked needs.
The DLF/Aquifer Guidelines recommends selecting a typeOfResource term that
matches the original item (the analog resource, in the case of digitized
materials, or the original digital format in the case of born-digital
materials), in your case, "text".
