This landmark release marks the point at which the entire Mercury Living
Presence catalog, as remastered by original recording producers in the
1990s, is available in physical form. In addition, Decca presents 10 albums
that have never before been on CD, mixed down, restored and remastered from
fragile tapes, to allow the fullest possible appreciation of this landmark
label. The booklet includes the detail about the recording, engineers and
producers, microphones, tapes, dates and locations.
NEVER BEFORE ON CD.Working with Wilma Cozart Fine's son, Thomas Fine, and
Andrew Walter at London's Abbey Road Studios, Decca proudly present 10 new
albums, never before on CD, restored from the original tapes, restored and
remastered. This has involved the application of new technology combined
with delicate handling of these fragile tapes, some untouched since original
release in the late 1950s, to secure the best possible sound. The results
are remarkable and beyond all expectation, due in part to new processes
which can eliminate the mechanical distortion, wow and flutter and smearing
inherent in the recording techniques of the 1950s without destroying the
original, bright, clear sound which made the label so famous. The ten albums
are:
-CD15: Frederick Fennell conducts Victor Herbert [NEW TO CD]
-CD38: Ginastera: Variaciones Concertantes; Britten: The Young Person's
Guide To The Orchestra [Mono recording]
-CD39: Copland: Symphony No.3 [Mono recording]
-CD40: Respighi: Church Windows; Roman Festivals [Mono recording]
-CD43: Beethoven: Symphony No.3 in E Flat - "Eroica"
-CD48: World Of Flamenco
-CD49: Baroque Concertos For Recorders & Strings
-CD50: Hindemith: Symphony in B Flat; Schoenberg: Theme & Variations;
Stravinsky: Symphonies for Wind
-CD52: Tchaikovsky: Overture 1812; Capriccio Italien [Mono recording]

Los Angeles Guitar Quartet-New Renaissance
Label: Lagq Records 315 Release Date: 3/17/2015 UPC: 616892276449
SPECIAL MLA SALE $ 13.77 Offered only here. This is a time sensitive SALE
that is good through April 1, '15 No extensions allowed per label.
In their latest recording, NEW RENAISSANCE, LAGQ embarks on a quixotic
journey through Spain, Italy, England and France. Featuring original
arrangements and compositions inspired by such Renaissance masters as
Francesco da Milano, John Dowland and Josquin des Prez, it also shares
connections with Miguel de Cervantes and the Minister of Silly Walks
himself, Sir John Cleese. With a rich discography of over fifteen
recordings, the pioneering Los Angeles Guitar Quartet has firmly established
themselves as the "State of the Art" in guitar ensembles. Their repertoire
runs the gamut from Bach to gamelan, from reggae to rock, and from Classical
warhorses to incisive modern works. Throughout, LAGQ has stretched the sonic
and stylistic possibilities of the guitar quartet. Their sense of
experimentation has taken them to the far reaches of the musical map, all
informed with their trademark "LAGQ Sound". This met its full realization in
their GRAMMYR award-winning "LAGQ's Guitar Heroes", with homages to
guitarists as diverse as Chet Atkins, Jimi Hendrix and Pat Metheny.
Their highly anticipated new release-NEW RENAISSANCE-marks a return to the
early music themes of their hit 1992 recording "Dances from Renaissance to
Nutcracker", but this time infused with a distinctly modern aesthetic.
