I just saw the movie <http://www.wreckingcrewfilm.com/index.php> about this
group of west coast studio players and think just about everyone on this
list would be in its prime audience, aside from the incorrigibly
classical-only crowd. It may not be the work of a great documentarian, but
it is definitely a labor of love created by the son of Tommy Tedesco. Tough
it somewhat lacks focus and structure, it has tons of scenes of Tedesco, Hal
Blaine, Carol Kaye, Plas Johnson and others just BS-ing about their
experience and these were genuine testament to the era of pop music where
bands used session musicians almost exclusively. Lots of testimonial
interview footage with Herb Alpert, Cher, Mickey Dolenz, Brian Wilson, Glen
Campbell (even one brief segment with Zappa). What's not to like? A movie
that has a trombone joke (what do you call a trombone player with a beeper?
An optimist [rim shot]) in the outtake slot can't be all bad.
Follow the link if you are interested in seeing if the film is being
screened nearby.
See it.
