Hi Lou. I just listened to the section you mentioned. There is music
playing when he says "Damn". Actually, he says it four times, so maybe
you're memory is a bit foggy? - Lord knows mine is! :-) The music would
mask any pre-echo if it were there. The music stops after he says the last
"Damn" but there is no audible post echo at all. Maybe the source you
heard was made from a dupe.
There is some post echo audible about a minute earlier though, when he
yells "Mother!". The echo is faintly audible just before he yells it
again. That spot is only a few feet from the beginning of a reel join, and
I think these were heads out (mags are almost always stored heads), so it
would have been at the core, so maybe there is truth in what Tom said about
the tighter pack near the center exacerbating it.
