Hi David,
I have a Technolink TC-778 and it's a good value for the money. It's a
simple two transistor circuit design which would qualify it as a
"discrete" preamp. The 78 RPM equalization is pre-set at the post-1948
EQ which is the "Standardized" version of 78 EQ. I don't use this for
archival transfers however because of the non-adjustable 78 RPM EQ
section. The EQ can't be bypassed either for a flat transfer. It's
either 78 RPM or RIAA. That said, it is used in the living room stereo
system so we can playback the occasional 78 RPM record.
IMHO, Tom Fines suggestion of the TDL Restoration Preamp is your best
bang for the buck. Go for the KAB if you have the budget.
Regards,
Corey
