Register of Copyrights Maria Pallante to Testify
Washington, D.C. - On Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will hold another hearing<http://judiciary.house.gov/index.cfm/hearings?ID=FE596B62-4638-400C-973E-CDC7761A074A> as part of the Committee's comprehensive copyright review and U.S. Register of Copyrights Maria Pallante will testify before the Committee regarding the Copyright Office's perspective on updates to U.S. copyright law.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) released the following statement in advance of Wednesday's hearing.
Chairman Goodlatte: "The goal of the House Judiciary Committee's comprehensive copyright review has been to determine whether the copyright laws are still working in the digital age to reward creativity and innovation. Next week the Committee will continue our review and hear from Maria Pallante, the Register of Copyrights. In her role as the head of the Copyright Office, Ms. Pallante has a unique perspective regarding the copyright issues that have arisen with the advancement of technology."
Chairman Goodlatte first announced his intention to undertake a comprehensive review of U.S. copyright law on April 24, 2013, in a speech before the World Intellectual Property Day celebration at the Library of Congress. As part of the Chairman's copyright review, the House Judiciary Committee has held 20 hearings which included testimony from 100 witnesses.
This hearing will take place in 2141 Rayburn House Office Building and will be webcast live at judiciary.house.gov<http://judiciary.house.gov/index.cfm/home>. Camera crews wishing to cover must be congressionally-credentialed and RSVP with the House Radio-TV Gallery at (202) 225-5214.
