On March 25, 2015 James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress, announced a list of 25 new recordings to be added to the library’s National Recording Registry because of their “cultural, artistic and/or historical significance to American society.” One of them, ‘Songs of the Old Regular Baptists: Lined-out Hymnody From Eastern Kentucky’ (album) Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, 1997 (SFW 40106), resulted from the chance meeting of several people at Berea College. Berea College Appalachian Center founder Loyal Jones recounts the details in his own words here: http://tinyurl.com/q3o2f7y
