Dear All,
I'm seeking some guidance on handling audiovisual files within my METS
techMD section. This contains a PREMIS:OBJECT section referencing the
complete digital object (file) which I also have checksums for. However
when it comes to noting the format elements I was thinking of providing
format elements for both the file and also the bitstreams within it, and
linking these to the PRONOM registry. As I have the following at the
beginning of this section
<premis:object xsi:type="premis:file" xmlns="info:lc/xmlns/premis-v2">
I was then hoping that I could use the xsi:type attribute within the format
element to note what the format element relates to i.e. either the file or a
bitstream. However it doesn't look like this is possible.
Should I therefore just reference the file format and ensure that what I
point to in PRONOM contains the exact bitstreams as my file? Or should I
have a premis:object section within my techMD for my file and repeat
premis:object section for each bitstream that makes up the file?
I'd be interested to hear and see examples of how others have implemented this.
Thanks in advance for your help.
