Hi Corey:

This is one of those odd circumstances where I got a call from a person
who is handling the contents of a storage locker. They are mainly
looking to see that any gear worthwhile finds a good home and pays a
little money back to the owner. It has been stored for two years there,
prior to being in a working environment.

The deck would be used for audiotape digitizing only - not
recording/mix/mastering. I don't have 1" - 16 track transfer capability
and although I don't need the capability at present nor do I foresee any
work in the near future, I thought it might be worth picking it up for
the small amount it would cost to take it back to my place and look it
over. I'm a gear head and something like this is hard to pass up. I just
didn't want to go through the efforts if this particular model has a
history of being problematic or is known by people more knowledgeable
than I, to be an average or less than average quality deck for this tape
format. I was surprised that Teac even made a deck for formats larger
than 1/4" and always viewed them as prosumer decks.

I'm well aware of what might be involved in getting any older gear back
up to running shape. I own several of Mike Spitz's customized decks in
formats smaller than 1" and I paid a very good buck to have him work his
magic on rebuilding and customizing them. That doesn't worry me as much
as spending time on an item that is not worth the efforts to begin with,
based on how good it was brand new in perfect working order.

You said you had some experience with the Teac 16 track format and was
not impressed. Could you detail further?
