OTRR-donation of tapes -- Volunteer Needed to Pick Up and Ship Reel
by
"David Oxford"
I'm asking for a volunteer in the Chicago area who would be willing to
go to a storage unit & pick up several boxes of reel to reel tapes.
The address of the storage unit is: U-Stor-It Lisle, 2100 Ogden Ave.,
Lisle, IL 60532
I've been in email and telephone contact with Reenea and her brother,
Frank Prasil, several times over the last few weeks. Frank has some
tapes in a storage unit that he'd like to donate to the Researcher's
Group. These are commercial tapes purchased from Golden Age of Radio
in Seattle in the 1970's. I have about 200 tapes from this company
from a previous donation. They are nice tapes. There is a catalog and
each box has it's own contents page.
Fred is rather infirm and recently recovering from surgery. His sister
is also elderly and frail. I talked to Frank yesterday and he asked if
there might be someone in the Chicago area who might be able to help
him go to the storage unit to get the boxes and then to the post
office to ship them. Frank has no idea how many tapes or boxes there
might be. He'd guess about 500 tapes. They are boxed and ready for
shipping (for the most part). How big the boxes are, how many are
rather sketchy. There may be reels that need reboxing, etc.
Initially, just picking up the tapes and taking them to your home
would allow Frank and Reenea to close the storage unit which they
would like to to as soon as possible. We can figure out where to send
the tapes later. The current plan would be to ship the tapes to me or
to someone else who has reel to reel capabilities to transfer the
tapes to digital format. The group or the Purchasing Group would pay
for any shipping.
Please contact me and we'll arrange a date and time to meet Frank and
Reenea at the storage unit.
