I have tried many and still keep coming back to ViceVersa Pro and the
simple scheduler.
There is a VVEngine that might be interesting under certain
circumstances, but I haven't yet decided and since everything I have
works around VVP, I'm no longer interested in looking.
Good/Bad news: The backups are essentially clones of the filesystem so
if you're trying to copy someplace like Google Drive, you may be unhappy
as you'll run out of inodes before you run out of space if you have a
bunch of small files. That's the only downside at present as compared to
a system that puts a number of files into a single backup file like many
of the backup programs. I think Acronis works that way.
VVPro does not create bootable media, as far as I know.
My philosophy is that data and system need separate backup strategies.
With the current crop of HDDs, I'm not even backing up the system as the
machines are getting replaced before the OEM drive wears out in most
instances. Each of my sons has two and a half laptops now.
Cheers,
Richard
