Hello, everyone,
The proposal Bahai Faith members was approved in error and will be cancelled.
Apologies for any confusion,

Adam,
I wonder if this has something to do with discomfort with the apostrophe in the word Bahá’í. To pluralize it you just add an 's' at the end, but maybe some people find "Bahá’ís" a strange word and have trouble avoiding spelling errors. I know from having known quite a few Bahá’ís that that is the way they are ordinarily referred to in English, but it is very easy to misspell.
There's the same discomfort with the word "Bahá’ísm." When I used that with Bahá’í friends, they'd say "just call it the Bahá’í Faith."
But I notice that the established form for the faith in LCSH is just Bahai Faith with no apostrophe. If that is so, I believe Bahais would be a lot better than Bahai Faith members. I doubt people will really use Bahai Faith members, any more than you would use "Catholic Faith members" or "Jewish Faith members."
Just some thoughts,
Ted Gemberling

Subject: [PCCLIST] Bahais vs. Bahai Faith members
LC recently approved a new subject heading:
Bahai Faith members
BT Religious adherents
LCSH already had:
Bahais
BT Religious adherents
Does anyone understand the difference between these two subjects? Aren't Bahai Faith members Bahais? Are there Bahais that would not be Bahai Faith members?
I went to the website Bahai.org and they seem to be using the two terms interchangeably: the home page has both terms on it, e.g., "The Bahá’ís Faith" and "What Bahá’ís believe". I'm wondering if these two subject headings should be combined into one? And if there really should be two headings, aren't scope notes needed?
