How would Bibframe and linked data cope with local requirements?
For example, until the badly written RDA rule about qualifying names
is corrected, many public libraries add "(Fictitious character)" to
all fictitious creators for patron information and consistency. If it
is lacking, patrons ask "don't you know this person is fictitious", as
they used to ask "don't you know this person is dead?" before we
resumed adding death dates.
That qualifier should be required as titles of nobility are now
required. Too many of our practices are to meet our needs, not those
of patrons.
We should not appear dumb to our users.
