"Instantaneous record" is a term of art that refers to any kind of "cut,"
on-the-spot, one-of-a-kind record, as opposed to a pressed, manufactured
one. This includes transcription discs (mostly), test records (sometimes),
"acetates," movie pre-recordings, etc.
