Subject: [ARSCLIST] Odd-sized wire recording
Hello all,
A colleague has come to me for advice on preserving a "one-off" wire recording. We have no information about content and no contextual clues as to what is recorded on it. The spool is about 3" across, and it has a narrow mounting spindle of maybe 3/8". I've tried including a picture, but the listserv software rejects it.
It's been suggested to us that it may come from a Navy Brush Magnetone Soundmirror BK-303 VRW-4 Magnetic Wire Recorder. Neither our internal lab, nor any of our usual contractors have a machine to play back this recording. Apparently the hub and guide arrangements preclude threading it on another recorder, and feeding it onto another spool risks twists and tangles.
Does anyone on the list know anyone who can playback this spool?
Thanks,
Steve
