There is always a risk to data. Always have backup. Don't rely on big
pipes from hotels if you're shooting raw images. Carry HDDs (or SSDs in
the not too distant future).
I think airport x-rays are a very small risk compared to the other ones.
I've adjusted my thinking to consider user data to be a separate entity
from the system and applications. It's the user data you want to protect
and you can do it to the level you want.
I don't see SSDs in RAID NAS units for a while. I'm using RAID-6 with 3
and 4 TB drives (main unit 8 x 3 TB; backup unit 5 x 4 TB -- not
everything is intended to be kept in two copies, especially if it can be
replicated from other sources).
