As the one who started the thread, I'll defend it. As I said at the beginning, cheap but
good-sounding earbuds have many uses in the pro and educational audio fields. Not all of us can do
all of our work in nice secure environments with excellent monitoring facilities, and not everyone
out there making field recordings can afford or would want to use excellent headphones under field
conditions. Furthermore, in an educational setting, high-quality/low-cost is paramount. Given that
feature films are made using iPhones these days, the cheap "audio toys" I made the topic of this
thread are actually very relevant!

PS -- updated one man's opinion comparison, I think I prefer the SonicBuds for watching videos on
the iPad because you can turn the volume down very low and still make out dialog and music clearly.
In that case, the extra brightness is a good thing. Particularly handy for watching TV in bed while
my wife is sleeping. I imagine they'd work very well for that use on an airplane, giving you the
ability to hear without having the crank the volume up to ear-damaging levels. Turning back to the
our world, this would be helpful with field recording in noisy or chaotic environments.

I am another who is slightly dumbfounded by our members exchanging insights
on what are basically audio toys. A harmless waste of time, one might say,
if it entertains, except for the possibility that the ignorant could
suppose some value attached to them because they were discussed in this
forum. In matters of playback equipment, my rule of thumb has always been
"would you want to listen to it?". An emphatic negative seems the only
intelligent response to the previously mentioned items.
