There was a good documentary about Byron made by the Pittsburgh PBS station:

It ran once on the PBS network. They used some footage of Byron with the Mercury crew in Moscow,

Byron Janis is, first of all, one of the finest American pianists ever. Second, he is a courageous 
and interesting man who has led a heck of a life, so the Scorsese film should be very entertaining.
