Hello Richard,
I've left out the GFFS (Glue Foam Flange Syndrome) issue since it pertains only to 3M Scotch 2" and 1" videotapes. In fact today, I was looking at another collection in the valley of 2" Quad, 1" type B and C tapes (and others), educating new clients about the foam flange. Fortunately, the archive was populated with Ampex, Fuji, Sony and Maxell in addition to 479 foam flange product.and no glue seepage has been detected (so far). But with over 1,000 1" elements, we have lots of work to do.
In regard to the anodized debris, this has been found on 3M Scotch gold flanged tapes on model 400 2" Quad and model 479 1" C product. The exact gold color of the flange was found on the tape pack itself during cleaning. Note that no blue Memorex flange or red "Chroma 90" Memorex flange has shown this problem yet.
Regards,
David Crosthwait
