Five 3 TB WD Reds have been running for two years in one five-slot 
RAID-6 NAS and are now running in an 8-slot RAID-6 NAS. I had enough 
S.M.A.R.T. data to convince WD to RMA one of them. Now five 4 TB Reds 
are running in the 5-slot NAS.

I've had two Thecus N5200 Pro NAS units. Originally four 1 TB Samsung 
drives each in RAID-5. I had one replaced (I had bought a spare). I 
expanded to the 5th slot with 1 TB Seagate drives and I've had to 
replace one, I think. I finally took them out of service still with 
everything OK S.M.A.R.T. data on all drives.

Anyway, those ran essentially 24/7 from June 2008 to December 2015. The 
CPU fan in one unit has failed. These were loaded with almost all my 
data and put on the shelf as a snapshot backup, probably never to be 
used again. I'm retiring all my Netgear Ready  NAS NV+ units (5). Though 
I'll keep one or two ready. I do have one with four 2 TB Reds that's 
fine. That could provide 6 TB of secondary backup for the stuff I shed 
off the main NAS.
