Dear all,
As the subject of Frank Zappa has come up, I thought I might use this opportunity to ask list subscribers what happened to his huge archive of audio and video recordings, most of them unrealised projects? I know that his son has been arranging for the digitisation of some of it, but this would be a massive undertaking. If the archive is still in his house, then all the obvious risks associated with that are worrying, to say the least. Does anyone know if the recordings are in safer, archival hands, with a suitable budget to get it preserved?
My interest stems not just from a fan’s perspective, but also from an email I received some years ago from someone actively involved in bootlegging Zappa’s material (apparently he is the most bootlegged artist in recent times), who wondered what was being done to safeguard the archive, which was then in family hands.
