Cross-posted to both lists ...

I think an adult needs to be adult enough not to be "intimidated" by a very tame (by internet
standards) e-mail list such as ARSCList. The discussion rarely gets even mildly hostile. There is
perhaps some perceived snootiness at times (probably guilty if charged), and there is justified
impatience with the same questions being asked repeatedly. For the record, I don't recall one single
library/archive professional asking a specific question more than once, the guilty parties tend to
be hobbyist/collectors. Please don't tell me that employees of educational institutions are now
requiring the same "safe areas" that some babyish students demand. Being unable to tolerate and
engage disagreement is not only a sign of a closed mind, it is a handicap to fully experiencing
human emotions, interactions and potential.

This two-list concept seems to be a done deal, so I won't waste any more time lamenting it. I hope
many archive/library professionals remain subscribed to both lists, because you are self-limiting
your knowledge pool by confining yourself to a smaller world. The same goes for those ARSC List
veterans who would stubbornly refuse to follow the other list for reasons of "principle."
